     Veterans Day - we honor each staff member who is a veteran of the Armed Forces with breakfast, a gift, and thanks from our students.  

Wreaths Across America at Barrancas National Cemetery at NAS - December 16, 2023 - students and staff are asked to volunteer to go to the cemetery and lay wreaths on the graves.  

     Medal of Honor Day - March 25 every year - students are instructed on the meaning of the Medal of Honor, and past recipients are acknowledged and researched.

About the Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) Program

Booker T. Washington High School is pleased to offer non-medical counseling and support to our military-connected students. The MFLC program helps military families and children navigate the challenges with free face-to-face support. Our counselor provides confidential non-medical counseling services to students. Child and youth behavioral military and family life counselors support military children for various issues, including low self-esteem, behavioral problems, and changes at home. These counselors, who are part of the Military and Family Life Counseling Programs, understand the issues military children face and can be especially helpful during challenging periods, including deployments and PCS moves.

Counselors are licensed with a master's degree or higher and have a positive effect on:

• General behavior
• Performance in school
• Relationships with family members and teachers

Topics covered:

The licensed counselors in the MFLC Program address:

• Self-esteem issues
• Communication and relationships at home and school
• Life skills, such as problem-solving and adjustment
• Behavioral issues, including bullying and anger management
• Changes at home, such as deployment, reunion, divorce, and grief

Conversations in these sessions stay between the student and his or her counselor. The only exceptions to this rule are cases of domestic violence, abuse, and suicidal or homicidal threats. No counseling records are maintained.

MFLC parental consent forms can be downloaded and printed by students, parents, or referral sources, and must be signed by a parent or guardian.

The Joint Military Council for Education Excellence was established as a partnership between the Escambia County School District and Naval Air Station Pensacola in the Spring of 2020. Its mission is: Improving educational services and communication between the Escambia County School District and military families.

The Military Council convenes quarterly to address topics of mutual interest and to solicit input from community stakeholders, including military families.

The Center also offers free in-person counseling support for military children, adults, and families.

Military OneSource connects you to programs, services and products developed for military life. Turn to Military OneSource for tax services, spouse employment help, webinars and online training, relocation and deployment tools, and much more. The site also has a link to a tutoring service designed specifically for military students as well as an MFLC locator so that families can look for MFLCs where they currently reside or are PCSing to. In addition, eligible families can also access free virtual counseling; learn more at this link.

Military Child Education Coalition

The Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission has a specific section for parents with resources detailing the role of the School Liaison as well as helpful articles on helping military children change schools and cope with moving, among others. They also have a section on supporting military families with special medical or educational needs.

The ASVAB CEP offers students a chance to explore all paths to careers - college, certifications, apprenticeships, licensure programs, and the Military - in one place. Contact your school counselor to find out when the ASVAB CEP is coming to your school.

Pear Deck Tutor (formerly TutorMe) is an online service that provides one-on-one, on-demand, live homework and writing support in certain subject areas.

Transition Peer Program

Established in 2004, Student 2 Student® (S2S™) is a student program that brings military and civilian students together to welcome all new students, create a positive environment, support academic excellence, and ease transitions.
