What Is Take Stock in Children?

  • Take Stock in Children is a statewide program operated locally by the Escambia County Public Schools Foundation. Our program provides a mentor, a college success coach, workshops, and college readiness assistance.  Students are held accountable for their grades, attendance, and behavior and commit to remain crime/drug free.  At graduation, if standards are maintained, students receive a 4-year tuition scholarship.

How are Students Selected?

    • Schools review the applications and a county Take Stock committee makes the final decision.
    • The number of students selected is determined by the number of scholarships donated each year.

Where Do Scholarships Come From?

    • Scholarships are donated by businesses, foundations, community organizations, and individuals.
    • Donations are matched dollar-for-dollar by the Florida Prepaid College Foundation.

What Does the Scholarship Cover?

    • Tuition and local fees for 4 years at the state college rate for Florida.
    • Funds can also be used for vocational training or towards university tuition.

How Many Students are in the Program?

  • Currently, in Escambia County, there are 164 Take Stock scholars in grades 7-12, over 75 students are currently in college, and there have been 159 college graduates thus far.
