A. K. Suter Elementary is located in southeastern Pensacola, Florida. With a population ranging between 500 and 540 students, it is a small neighborhood school that maintains a close community atmosphere. The school is enthusiastically supported by an active PTA, multiple Partners in Education, and numerous volunteers.Volunteers help in the classroom by tutoring students and assisting with programs like Math Superstars, as well as, working at special events and fundraisers.
Suter provides a solid foundation in academic excellence. Test results show achievement far above national averages, and the school consistently ranks at the top in Escambia County. Teachers have high expectations for student achievement and appropriate behavior. A strong work ethic and core values of equality, honesty, integrity, patriotism, respect, and responsibility are incorporated in the curriculum.
MISSION STATEMENT
The faculty, staff, families and community of Suter School unite to instill in our students a high standard of academic excellence and responsible behavior that will prepare them to compete in a rapidly changing society.
HISTORY
When the doors to Annie K. Suter Elementary School first opened in 1921, the school had two teachers and a principal. Today Suter "Dolphins" from kindergarten through fifth grade learn skills for success under the direction of over 20 classroom teachers, supported by a principal, guidance counselor, media specialist, part-time technology coordinator, physical education teacher, music and art teachers, special education teachers for learning disabled, speech/language impaired and gifted students, teacher aides, school secretary, data clerk, and custodial staff.
Over the years, the physical plant has had numerous changes and additions. The 1994-95 school year brought Suter a new media center and an art/music room. At that same time, the school grounds were expanded to include additional acreage for the physical education program and a new parking lot. Administrative offices, classrooms, and hallways also received a face lift. In the fall of 2003, a new wing housing fifth grade classrooms and an ESE suite opened. Even with all the new renovations, however, a glance down Suter's front hallway reveals that Suter has maintained its quaint charm. Brightly colored doorways and hallways decorated with student artwork help create a warm, comfortable atmosphere that encourages student learning. In January 2015, we opened the doors to a new building facility.
