  • The Academic Skills Builder (ASB) program at Stone Technical College is designed to help adult learners strengthen their foundational academic skills to meet the exit requirements for their CTE programs.

    Whether you need to build confidence in reading, writing, math, or digital literacy, our instructors are here to support you every step of the way.

    (The Council on Occupational Education (COE) does not accredit avocational programs such as Academic Skills Builder (ASB), Adult Basic Education (ABE), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and GED preparation.  In addition, avocational programs do not qualify for Title IV financial aid assistance.)

What is the ASB Program?

    • It's a non-credit program in Florida that helps adult learners improve their literacy and math skills through two courses: ASB Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA) and ASB Mathematics.
    • The program aims to prepare students for college, careers, and overall self-sufficiency.
    • It aligns with Florida's B.E.S.T. Standards and supports local adult education agencies in curriculum development.
    • It can assist adults in completing their high school education or equivalent and provides advanced instruction for those with a diploma preparing for further education and employment. 

What You'll Learn

  • 🔹 Reading and Comprehension – Understanding written materials in every day and workplace settings
    🔹 Writing Skills – Sentence structure, grammar, spelling, and clear communication
    🔹 Basic Math – Whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, and word problems
    🔹 Workplace Readiness – Soft skills, digital skills, and basic computer navigation
    🔹 Learning Strategies – Organization, study habits, and test-taking strategies

  • You may benefit from the ASB program if:

    • You’re starting a technical program and want to feel more confident.

    • You need to increase your CASAS scores to meet the CTE program exit requirements. 
    • You’ve been out of school and want to ease back into learning.

    • You need help preparing for college placement or job assessments.
